WordPress settings for SEO
Is your blog reaching to enough audiences? Your blog might have published with valuable contain and certainly might have chosen SEO friendly domain name, hosted with best hosting provider for better performance but still having low traffic than you should think about SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
There are many ways of driving traffic to the blog and SEO is one of it. SEO optimization boost blog ranking in search engine like Google, Yahoo and Bing. You can setup blog’s on-page SEO in minutes. Blog performance and unique content are main factors for SEO.
In your WordPress admin panel, you will see option named “Settings”. It will allow you to setup the blog title, description, permalink and custom homepage. It also has control to “allow” or “deny” search engine to crawl the blog.
Login to WordPress dashboard, click on “General” under “Settings”.
In the first section, you will see “Site Title” and “Tagline”. Site title and tagline explains about your blog. In “Site Title” field provide your brand name and in “Tagline” field write short description about your blog. Click on “Save Change” button below.
You can set custom homepage of the blog. In Admin panel, Click on “Reading” under “Settings”.
You have two options, Your Latest Posts and A Static page.
Your Latest Posts: This option is enabled by default. Your homepage display the latest posts you publish.
A static page: You can set custom homepage using this option. Choose “A static page” and select custom “Page” or “Post” from drop-down box to display as homepage. Click on “Save Change”.
Search Engine Visibility
Do not “Check” search engine visibility option. It will disallow search engine to index your blog. Make sure “Discourage Search Engines from indexing this site” is unchecked.
The structure of the pages and posts are very important in SEO. The pages or posts URL are Permalinks. Set pages or posts URL human readable. You have options of setting posts or pages URL as plan, data and time, month and name, numeric, post name and custom format.
In your WordPress Dashboard, hover mouse pointer on “Settings” and click on “Permalinks”.
You will see list of URL structure select “Post name” and click on “Save Changes”.
Yoast is powerful WordPress plugin for SEO. It optimize your blog and posts to rank higher in search engine.
Install Yoast SEO Plugin
In WordPress Dashboard, Hover mouse point on “Plugins” and click on “Add new”.
Type “Yoast SEO” in the search box at the right. You will see plugin at the beginning. Click on “Install Now” button. After completion of installation click on “Activate” button.
