How to Add Websites to Google Webmaster Tools
- Sign up for Google Webmaster
- Verify your Website to Google Webmaster
Step-1: Sign up for Google Webmaster
You may already have Gmail ID, if not create one. Google Webmaster tools need google account (E-mail ID) to SIGN IN.
Open Google webmaster in the web browser.
Click on Sign In button to login.

In the next page, Click on Start Now button.

You will see Sign In page in next step, Enter your Gmail ID and password to start adding your website.

Now, In the URL prefix enter your website URL followed by http:// or https:// and click on Continue button.

You will see verification option in the next page. You can verify your website using two methods.
Step-3: Verify your Website to Google Webmaster Tools
In the next page, Google webmaster will ask you to verify your website using different methods. You can verify using one of the below methods.
- Method-1: Copy and Paste HTML Tag in your Website
- Method-2: Upload HTML File in the Server using FTP Client
Method-1: Copy and Paste HTML tag in your Website.
In Other verification methods section, click on HTML tag to expand and copy the meta tag and paste into the site.

You can do this in two ways.
- Add the meta tag in header.php below <head> section.
- Add the meta tag using Yoast SEO plugin.

Login to WordPress dashboard. Click on Appearance and click on Editor.

Click on header.php at the right side of the screen. Paste HTML tag below <head> and click on Update File button.

Now, go back to the Google webmaster and click on Verify button.

If the HTML tag is correctly added, you will see verified message.

Add the meta tag using Yoast SEO Plugin.
You can also verify your website using Yoast SEO plugins. You just need to copy and paste the key from HTML tag.

Login to WordPress dashboard. Install and activate Yoast SEO plugin and Click on General under SEO.

In the next screen, click on Webmaster tools tab and paste HTML tag key in Google verification code field and Click on Save Changes button.

Go back to google webmaster and click on Verify button.

Method-2: Upload HTML File in the Server using FTP Client.
Download HTML file and keep it on the desktop for easy access.

Open FTP client Filezilla and connect using FTP login details and click Quick Connect button.

FileZilla have two sections, PC Section and Server Section. Drag HTML file recently downloaded from the desktop and drop inside the public_html folder on the Server Section.

Once your file gets uploaded, return back to google webmaster and click on Verify button.

Now, your website is ready to optimize for Google web crawlers. Google will collect your website data within 24 hours and reports will be visible in the Google Webmaster dashboard.
